(She fails.) She's also a very Eve Brown sort of character which made her POV super fun. Gemma is dealing with the discovery of her long-lost sister, the responsibility of caring for the ghost she accidentally turned solid (with her mouth), and the stress of trying not to fall on his mouth again. ![]() The sarcasm and banter is so fun but then you'll be slapped in the face with Deep Emotional Questions that make you feel very deeply for these characters. What a bonkers delight this story is with its ghostly makeout sessions and forced proximity/fake relationship and interdimensional theory, all grounded with that trademark Beharrie emotional depth. I found it quite difficult to find my place with this book. Now all Moo has to do is find out the truth behind the crime.before it's too late. But so is one shady character who seems intent on tracking Moo down. The police, the lawyers, and even the bullies are now really interested in Moo. Her inexperience and ignorance land her in the clutches of brigands. Madeline, however brave she feels inside, is completely unprepared for life in the real world. Various princely suitors (mostly unsuitable!), but eager to court favour with the king, also set off on their own missions to retrieve the princess. ![]() Her disappearance throws the castle and indeed the whole kingdom into total turmoil, with Knight Daniel, her champion and protector, setting off to find her. The only thing to do is run away desperate measures for sure, but a drastic situation calls for an equally drastic response. She wants freedom, independence, the ability to make her own choices, and-very importantly-to choose her future husband for herself. This indignity totally offends Madeline who is quite capable of making her own decisions. For one thing, her father King Theodore has decided that at the ball to celebrate her sixteenth birthday, a suitor will be chosen for her. ![]() Princess Madeline lives in the fairy tale kingdom of Soron, with a loving father and twin brother, Braden, a castle of servants at her beck and call, a charmed and pampered existence … and yet, she is not happy. I have one huge prediction that I can't wait to have proved or disproved. I am anxious to get my hands on the next books and see where this story will take us next. Nightchaser is a great start to what will likely be a fantastic series. ![]() I appreciated that the slow burn romance aspect from the other series was left out of this series and we got some adult sexy times in book 1. This book was exciting, captivating, and at times emotional. Nightchaser is a totally different type of book from the Kingmaker books, though still within the fantasy genre, but it is just as well written as the others. Since I read and loved the author's debut series Kingmaker Chronicles, I decided to buy and read this book as soon as it released and went into it completely blind. Unfortunately, this author releases books one year apart so now I have to wait until January 2020 for book 2. ![]() Nightchaser is book 1 in the new series, Endeavor, by Amanda Bouchet. ![]() ![]() ![]() The caption read, “Where’s the Mona Lisa? I’m double parked!” Art and Aesthetics This attitude was vividly expressed recently in a cartoon portraying an American rushing into the Louvre in Paris. And today much of the Christian community seems inclined to approach aesthetics in the same hurried and superficial manner with which we live most of our lives. This bold assertion has led many to argue that the spiritual life is essential, but the cultural inconsequential. At the heart of this mentality is Tertullian’s (160-220 A.D.) classic statement, “What has Athens to do with Jerusalem? The Academy with the Church? We have no need for curiosity since Jesus Christ, nor inquiry since the evangel.” Unfortunately, the answers we often hear to such questions imply that Christianity can function quite nicely without an aesthetic dimension. Is there a legitimate place for the appreciation of art and beauty in our lives? What is the relationship of culture to our spiritual life? Are not art and the development of aesthetic tastes really a waste of time in the light of eternity? These are questions Christians often ask about the fine arts. This article is also available in Spanish. ![]() How should Christians glorify God in the ways we interact with the arts and express our artistic bent? ![]() ![]() ![]() So it's refreshing that Pearson sticks to the heart of her story and leaves the rest to readers, whose imaginations will definitely still be reeling for days afterward. If the author followed today's trends, there would be hundreds more pages dedicated to Jenna's budding romance and her bickering with her mom. But within Jenna's family, the tension feels real, and her grandmother is a great mediator between the strict order her parents try to maintain and the fierce need for independence of any 17-year-old. Some of the characters in Jenna's new life seem too conveniently placed - like her friend Allys with artificial limbs who volunteers for the medical ethics board, as well as both a love interest and a neighbor who have big secrets. ![]() Piece by piece she is starting to have faint memories of her past. Jenna Fox has just woken up from a year and a half long coma and cant remember her past and who she used to be. Because of what Jenna's father does for a living, readers will be clued into the big secret way before Jenna is, but luckily there are more revelations in store. What is unique about the setting in the novel 'The Adoration of Jenna Fox' is that it enhances the the whole story and the plot that goes along with the story. And all of that is wrapped in a taut mystery that Jenna dramatically unravels. Not only about what kinds of ethical decisions humans will have to deal with in the future ( way beyond cloning), but also about what the cost is of not letting go when it's time, both in the regular "empty nest" parent sense and the grieving sense. ![]() This sci-fi story definitely gets you thinking. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Legally Blonde the musical is based on the novel Legally Blonde by Amanda Brown and on the critically acclaimed 2001 comedy film of the same title which starred Reese Witherspoon.
